Tour De Satpura is a fully supported cycling tour through the Satpura hill ranges in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This 3-day cycling tour pushes your limits through the stunning Satpura mountains. Beginning in Chhindwara, you’ll tackle challenging climbs and scenic routes, reaching breathtaking viewpoints. DAY 0 –Gear Up and Get Ready!

CHHINDWARA 4th July 2024

Our journey begins in Chhindwara. This day is dedicated to ensuring your bike is in top condition and you’re fully prepared for the exciting days ahead. We’ll have a comprehensive bike check, followed by a detailed tour briefing where we’ll discuss the route, safety protocols, and everything you need to know. You will also get to know your fellow riders who will accompany you on this experience .

Day 1 – Climb to the Clouds

PATALKOT 5th July 2024

Start Point: Chhindwara End Point: Patalkot
Distance: 62 KMs Elevation: +1190 m/ -810 m

Get ready to test your limits! Day 1 will see us conquering some serious climbs as we cycle towards the majestic Patalkot Viewpoint. The scenic route will offer breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding landscape, making the effort worthwhile. As we reach the viewpoint, prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning vistas. Relax, refuel, and soak in the beauty before descending towards our stay for the night.

We would be camping today.

Day 2 – To Hell and Back

PATALKOT 6th July 2024

Start Point: Patalkot End Point: Patalkot
Distance: 54 KMs Elevation: +1084 m / -1079 m

The Patalkot is a mystical, horse–shoe shaped valley, spread over an area of 79 Sq. Km and is surrounded by giant hills. ‘Patalkot’ name comes from Sanskrit word “Patal” that means very deep. Patalkot is a home to a tribal culture skilled at using the forest plants to make effective medicines. The Patalkot forest is so well hidden that people on the outside did not even know it ever existed.

We would be descending into the valley and climbing back passing through Chimtipur, a charming village nestled amidst the mountains. The route presents a mix of challenging climbs and exhilarating descents, keeping your adrenaline pumping. We would enjoy the serene atmosphere of Chimtipur and explore its hidden gems before returning to the Patalkot Viewpoint for another restful night.

We would be camping today again.

Day 3 – Queen of Satpura

PACHMADI 7th July 2024

Start Point: Patalkot End Point: Pachmadi
Distance: 100 KMs Elevation: +1515 m / -1522 m

The final day will be the ultimate test of endurance as we embark on the longest ride of the tour towards Pachmadi, the “Queen of the Satpuras.” Brace yourselves for breathtaking climbs and thrilling descents through scenic landscapes. Celebrate your incredible feat and enjoy the well-deserved beauty of this enchanting hill station.

Situated at 1100 m, Pachmarhi, popularly known as ‘Satpura ki Rani’ (Queen of Satpura), sits beautifully, embellished by nature and history, amidst the Satpura range. Legend says the Pandava brothers visited Pachmarhi during their exile. This most popular hill station of Madhya Pradesh is a treasure with ancient caves of the Buddhist era residing in harmony with serene waterfalls.

TOUR EXTRAS
1. Bike transportation: Nagpur to Chhindwara and Pachmadi to Nagpur – Rs 1000
2. Rider transportation: Nagpur to Chhindwara – Rs 1600 and Pachmadi to Nagpur – Rs 2900 (per head in shared taxi – Innova or Desire) TOTAL=Rs 4500
3. Rental Bike (will be made available at Chhindwara on Day 0): Rs 3500. Hybrids and MTBs available. We try to arrange bikes as per rider’s height but you may get a plus or minus sized bike as per availability on first come first serve basis. Bikes are a mixed bunch of reputed brands. Please note that if any parts are damaged of the rent bike due to falls during ride or mishandling will have to be paid by the rider.

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT IS PROVIDED DURING THE TOUR? WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED?

This is a fully supported bicycle tour. There will be multiple support stations (depending upon the length of the route) along the route with ample supply of water, drinks, beverages, snacks etc. Beside this there will be multiple backup and breakdown support vehicles plying the routes. Mobile medical assistance will also be available during the tour.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO DO THIS TOUR?

Any regular cyclist, aged 18 or more, who can ride 100KMs easily on any given day is eligible to do this tour. However please note that right to invite a participant is reserved with the organisers and their decision will be final.

WHEN SHOULD I REACH NAGPUR?

We would recommend that you reach Nagpur on 4th July morning, so that you can reach Chhindwara, which is 120kms from Nagpur and is about a 3 hour drive, in afternoon and get settled. Please do not miss our pre-tour briefing in the evening in which we will be explaining the flow of the tour and other important information.

DOES THE TOUR FEE INCLUDE TRANSPORT TO AND FROM NAGPUR? WHAT ABOUT STAY ON DAY 0 AT CHHINDWARA?

No, transportation to Chhindwara (120km from Nagpur) is not included in tour fees. You can reach Nagpur and then take a train (2-4 hours journey), a bus (3-5 hours journey) or a taxi (2-3 hours journey) to Chhindwara.

We will be transporting some riders to Chhindwara from Nagpur in shared transport for an extra fee (Rs. 1600). Stay of Day 0 in Chhindwara is however included in the tour fee, so you don’t have to worry about that.

IS THERE A LUGGAGE LIMIT?

There is a one bag per rider limit. Each rider is entitled to one piece of baggage (the max limit is 30 litres/15 Kgs). However we advise you not to carry any fragile items or expensive gadgets/ equipments in your baggage. We do not provide any guarantee for the safety of any fragile/expensive items in the baggage. We will not be responsible for any loss/ theft or damages.

WHAT KIND OF BIKE IS MOST SUITABLE FOR THIS TOUR? DO I BRING MY OWN BIKE?

This tour involves fair bit of off-road riding so we would suggest you to bring a MTB for this tour and we expect most of the participants will be bringing MTBs. However if you have a Hybrid bike with 35mm+ tyres, they should be ok too. We won’t suggest road bikes for this route though. And yes if you want us to arrange bikes on rent, we can do that too. Rent including transport of bike to start point and back is Rs. 3500. Please note that if any parts are damaged of the rent bike due to falls during ride or mishandling will have to be paid by the rider. 

WHEN CAN I PLAN MY RETURN FROM NAGPUR?

Tour will finish at Pachmadi on 7th July afternoon. The stay for 7th July at Pachmadi is included in the tour fee. Nagpur is 250 Kms from there. So you will have to plan a train or flight back after 8th afternoon. You can also chose to return via Jabalpur (290km) or Bhopal (210 km).

We will be transporting some riders to Pachmadi to Nagpur in shared transport for an extra fee (Rs. 2900).

HOW DO I TRAVEL WITH MY BICYCLE TILL CHHINDWARA?

The nearest airport is Nagpur and railway station is Chhindwara. Modern bicycles are really easy to carry in cars using a bike rack, or even in the boot of the car. If you are travelling by train, then you can easily remove both the wheels and then carry the bike with you in a bike bag. If you are flying to Nagpur, then you can easily check-in your bike in bike-box. Local bike shops can help you with packing it in a cardboard box, if you don’t have a proper bike bag for travelling. People travel all over the world with their bikes, so it’s a good idea to talk to someone who has already done so.
Once you reach Nagpur, you can travel on your own to Chhindwara, hire a taxi or can also opt for bike and rider transport being arranged by us for an extra fees of Rs4500 for rider transport and Rs. 1000 for bike transport from Nagpur.

WILL I ENCOUNTER WILD ANIMALS DURING THE RIDE?

It is tendency of wild animals to avoid any human presence and that is why it is so difficult to spot them even when you enter the core area of jungles. As we will be bicycling in buffer areas only where otherwise too there is significant number of villages and other human settlements, chances of this are very low to none. The route has been chosen in consultation with forest officials and is safe for riding. Further, on desolate patches volunteers will ensure that participants ride in a group.

HOW IS THE MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTIVITY THROUGH OUT THE ROUTE?

There will be sections of routes where you won’t have connectivity for few kilometres on the route. In our recce we found Jio network had the best coverage.
