While Spiti is best explored at a slow pace, cycling is the perfect way to experience its grandeur. This tour doesn’t just introduce you to Spiti’s stark beauty—it takes you through the lush green valleys of Kinnaur and the rolling landscapes of lower Himachal. It’s a journey through shifting terrains, cultures, and altitudes, making for an adventure you’ll cherish forever. DAY 1 – Himalayan Ice Breaker

Shimla, 28th April 2025

Participants arrive by afternoon at Shimla, Goody Bag Distribution, Introduction of Participants and Organisers. Today will be utilised help in starting the acclimatisation. Last minute shopping can be done today as well.

Note: Inner line permits need to be taken here for foreign nationals.

DAY 2 – Sangla & Beyond

Shimla to Batseri, 29th April 2025

Drive from Shimla to Batseri, Visit to the last village on Indo-Tibbet border, Chitkul post Lunch at Batseri, Bike check and handing over to riders

Highlights: Stunning drive along the Baspa River, traditional Himalayan architecture, acclimatization.

Day 3 – Monastery Trail

Batseri to Spillow, 30th April 2025

Our route today takes us deeper into Kinnaur, towards Spillow Village, a culturally rich monastic settlement known as the ‘Land of Gods.’ We ride through apple orchards, rolling hills, and remote villages, pausing to visit Spillow’s centuries-old monasteries, where Buddhist traditions are still alive.

Day 4 – Nako Heights

Spillow to Nako, 1st May 2025

The real expedition begins as we tackle a steep climb towards Nako, a high-altitude village perched above the clouds. Surrounded by barren mountains, Nako’s serene lake and centuries-old monastery make it an unforgettable stop.

Day 5 – Sacred Spiti

Nako to Tabo, 2nd May 2025

A fascinating day as we visit Gue, home to the legendary 500-year-old monk’s mummy, mysteriously preserved over centuries. From here, we continue to Tabo, a historic village housing the iconic Tabo Monastery, often called the ‘Ajanta of the Himalayas.’

Day 6 – Dhankar Quest

Tabo to Kaza, 3rd May 2025

We enter the heart of Spiti, navigating Martian-like landscapes en route to Dhankar, the ancient capital of the valley. A short trek to Dhankar Lake offers breathtaking panoramic views before we descend into Kaza, the bustling hub of Spiti.

Day 7 – Roof of Spiti

Kaza to Komic – Langza : Rooftop of Spiti to Kaza, 4th May 2025

A short but demanding climb takes us to the highest motorable villages in the world, including Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office, and Langza, the ‘Fossil Village’ known for its prehistoric marine fossils.

Day 8 – Sky Bridge

Kaza to Chicham – Kibber to Kaza, 5th May 2025

Today’s route takes us to Kibber and Chicham, two of Spiti’s highest inhabited villages. We cross the impressive Chicham Bridge, Asia’s highest suspension bridge, offering stunning views of deep gorges and towering peaks. Kibber, once a prominent trade route, is now known for its unique architecture and as a hotspot for snow leopard sightings. We return to Kaza for our final night in Spiti.

WHY SHOULD I DO THIS TOUR?

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT IS PROVIDED DURING THE TOUR? WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED?

This is a fully supported bicycle tour. There will be multiple support stations depending upon the length of the day’s ride, along the route with ample supply of water, drinks, beverages, snacks etc. Beside this there will be multiple backup and breakdown support vehicles plying the routes. 1st aid kit and oxygen cylinder will also be available during the tour. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO DO THIS TOUR?

Any regular cyclist, aged 18 or more, who can ride 100 KMs easily on any given day is eligible to do this tour. However please note that right to invite a participant is reserved with the organisers and their decision will be final.

WHEN SHOULD I REACH SHIMLA?

We would recommend that you reach Shimla on 28th April morning, so that you can start acclimatizing and ensure a smooth departure. We recommend reaching by 1 PM so you have time to explore, rest, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Inner Line Permit which is required for foreign nationals will also be taken at Shimla.

DOES THE TOUR FEE INCLUDE TRANSPORT FROM KAZA TO SHIMLA? WHAT ABOUT STAY ON DAY 8 AT KAZA?

No, transportation from Kaza to Shimla is not included in tour fees. However we will be arranging a shared transport for an extra fee (Rs. 2500). Riders can also book cabs which are in the range of Rs 15,000 for sedan (Dzire).

Stay of Day 8 stay at Kaza is however included in the tour fee, so you don’t have to worry about that.

IS THERE A LUGGAGE LIMIT?

WHAT KIND OF BIKE IS MOST SUITABLE FOR THIS TOUR? DO I BRING MY OWN BIKE?

Good quality MTBs of Trek, Merida, Marin etc are include in the tour cost. Please note that if any parts are damaged of the rent bike due to falls during ride or mishandling will be have to paid by the rider.

However you can bring in your own MTB or Gravel bike, the tour cost then would be Rs 63,000. We would help you out in assembling and packing the bike, along with transporting it on Day 2 to Batseri.

WHEN CAN I PLAN MY RETURN FROM KAZA?

Tour will finish at Kaza on 5th May evening. The stay for last day is included in the tour fee. So you can plan to move out from Kaza on 6th May morning to reach Shimla in about 13 hours.

HOW DO I TRAVEL WITH MY BICYCLE TILL SHIMLA?

The nearest airport is Shimla, where morning flights from New Delhi arrive. Nearest railway station is Kalka about 100kms from Shimla. Shimla is also well connected by road from New Delhi and Chandigarh.
Modern bicycles are really easy to carry in cars using a bike rack, or even in the boot of the car. If you are travelling by train, then you can easily remove both the wheels and then carry the bike with you in some bag. If you are flying in, then you can easily check-in your bike in a bike-box. Local bike shops can help you with packing it in a cardboard box, if you don’t have a proper bike bag for travelling. People travel all over the world with their bikes, so it’s a good idea to talk to someone who has already done so.
We would help you out in assembling the bike on Day 2 and packing the bike at Kaza where tour ends, along with transporting it on Day 2 to Batseri.

HOW IS THE MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTIVITY THROUGH OUT THE ROUTE?

There will be sections of routes where you won’t have connectivity for few kilometres on the route. In our recce we found Jio network had the best coverage.
